Mine Damer og Herrer i Danmark! 

Det er i år 200 år siden at "Mansfield Park" blev udgivet af Jane Austen. Derfor har jeg taget initiativet til at starte et Jane Austen Society of Denmark via facebook. Hvis der er nogen som deler min glæde for hendes værker, og vil dele deres meninger og måske gerne vil se et bal i Danmark som der også er i de forskellige europæiske lande i løbet af året, som fx. "The Masked Costumed Ball" i Bath i september, "Regency Week" i Alton i England i juni eller måske bal i tyskland i oktober og jeg har da også hørt rygter om baller på Malta i sand Regency stil så er I mere end velkommen til at deltage på vores side via facebook, "The Jane Austen Society of Denmark".

It is 200 years ago this year that "Mansfield Park" was published by Jane Austen. Therefore I have taken the initiativ to start a Jane Austen Society of Denmark via facebook. If there is anybody who wants to join and share their pleasure and happiness of her works, you are most welcome! You are also very welcome if you are interested in supporting the idea of a ball in Denmark, just like there is in Britain during the Jane Austen festival in september, or in Germany in October or even on Malta I have heard rumours of balls happening. The Fantastic World of Disney

                                         

Hey! I thought it was long time since I posted anything, so I was listening to Disney music...well old habits die hard as you say! :-D I am going to talk a little about Disney today!

I am sure we all remember the Disney movies, the happy days of our childhood. You do know that the march from the sleeping beauty was the first piece of music Tchaikovsky wanted to write? He was 8 years old. Do you remember the audio tapes with the Disney stories on them? With the little book, where you had to turn the pages when a certain sound came?

The Disney movies have meant a great deal to me, during the years, from the first time I saw them 
(of what I can remember) to the present. I am glad that my mom introduced me to the magical world of Disney! Now I think about it, then it is about 5 years ago since I was at Disneyland in Paris, and this year the park has its 20 magical year anniversary -- I was there when they had 15th year anniversary :-D that was a good day!

My favorite Disney movie is.... oh there is so many good ones! But my first favorite was Cinderella while I grew up! Now I think my favorite is "The Princess and the frog" because of the jazz music, the story is sweet but the music is amazing!

Do you remember wanting to run through the plains of Africa with Simba?

 And did you also sing along when they sang? I thought so :-D but you are not the only one who did that, or still do it for that matter! This movie came out a year after I was born, in 1994, so it was the first Disney, my mom introduced to me! Amazing right?

Swing through the jungle with Tarzan?

 Do you remember the sweet moment when Kela went and collected Tarzan from the house in the start? Did you get the creeps too when she is looking around the house because you know the cat is there? Can you still remember the songs? The English voice who sings "You'll be in my heart" is Phil Collins, and the Danish voice is Stig Rossen, who also sang together with Simone on "Gæt en sang" in the early 2000s. You do know when Tarzan had to be made swinging and skating in the jungle, the artist used his son as inspiration, when he was on his snowboard and such?   

Go to the enchanted castle with Belle?

This is where the Enchanted Castle is located in Beauty and the Beast. My personal guess is it is supposed to be in France.

I personally think it is one of the best dancing scenes in Disney, well; Cinderella Waltz scene beats it but only just! I love the scene because the music is beautiful and perfect; I love the voice of Mrs. Potts. And that picture is just sweet, right? Adam and Belle is a very sweet couple! Do you remember this movie?

Remember the first meeting between Cinderella and Prince Charming? That is a true gentleman, right? Bowing to the girl and kissing her hand!

The Midnight kiss! Truly romantic, right?

I think every girl wants this, at some point in their lives…well, the kiss always! My favorite Disney movie and I think I have sighed over this scene more times than I will admit to! Well, what do you think? It is a good movie, right? Please tell which Disney is your favorite?

Remember this magical carpet? Remember how Aladdin forgets himself and uses his own line with Jasmine when he plays Prince? I always laugh at that point!

And Mulan and Chang, do I need say more? We all know that Mulan saves China, and gets the guy as well, even if she doubted herself in the start of the movie! I can kind of identify myself with her, at the beginning! Poor girl! Well, she ends up being recognized for her skills and kindness in the end!

And then these two who really don’t get along at first, but ends up the best of friends in the end! Remember the music? Remember the story?

There is actually a statue in Copenhagen of the Little Mermaid, because the fairy tale was written by H. C. Andersen, the famous Danish fairy tale writer/teller. I love this fairy tale because in this version, Ariel actually gets the prince, after all her trying without a voice! I think the original fairy tale is so sad! Remember the songs, “Under the Sea” and “Part of your world” try and listen to “Part of your world” in Danish, it is really good! And Of course they rest of our favorite Disney characters and Princesses gets their happy endings...they always do in Disney!Which is one of the many reasons I love Disney movies, they always makes me happy!

200th Anniversary of Pride and Prejudice

As some know, last week it was the 200th anniversary of the publication of Jane Austen's second book "Pride and Prejudice" also known as "Stolthed og Fordom" (in danish).
I am one of the many people around the globe who has a crush on Mr. Darcy from "Pride and Prejudice" after he puts down his arrogance and pride, and shows his heart on his sleeve for Elizabeth, when he proposes the second time around.

There is a number of versions of Pride and Prejudice - made between 1940 and up to the newest version with Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen (on the picture above)
The 2004 version is my favorite of all the movies made since I really like the actors who play their roles to perfection!
Since it is 200 years ago Pride and Prejudice was published, many blogs around the world are celebrating this year, for not only is it the 200th year anniversary for the book but it is also the 200th wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy and Mr. & Mrs. Charles Bingley. I don't think it will be the last we hear to this famous book written by 'a lady' since a lot of authors and authoress' just to mention a few; Abigail Reynolds, Jack Caldwell, Marsh Altman, Sharon Lathan, P. O. Dixon, Shannon Winslow, Linda Wells and many others have taken up the pen to write about Fitzwilliam Darcy, Elizabeth Bennet, Jane Bennet and Charles Bingley, their families, friends and have given the characters new dramas, new adventures and new friends to meet.
These authors and authoress have put time and effort into their books, and have given many readers around the globe the pleasure of reading more about the famous characters, and I hope to be called a authoress myself someday, hopefully inside this wonderful sphere of Regency, romance and adventures.

This is also from the 2004 version where Elizabeth Bennet still thinks ill of Darcy, because he is an arrogant idiot! :-D Here they are dancing to a Solo Violin Dance at Netherfield Park, the estate which is the neighbour to Elizabeth's home Longbourn.  

And this clip is from the 1940 version of Pride and Prejudice, just after Darcy, in this movie played by Olivier Lawrence has proposed the second time to Elizabeth, who is played by Greer Garson. Is that kiss just nice or what? Olivier Lawrence has the right features to play an handsome landowner who thinks too much of himself until he meets independent Elizabeth Bennet who sits him straight!

White Star Line RMS Titanic; 100 years later

We all know the legend of Titanic, - the ship of Dreams which went to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean on the cold night between the 14th and 15th of April 1912 at 2.20 am in the morning. Tomorrow it will be a 100 years ago that Titanic went to the bottom of the ocean and became the most famous ship ever.  Known as the Unsinkable Ship... (what a crappy name considering what happened...ironic!)

We all know the legend of the band playing to the very last, including the song "Nearer my God to thee", and the many passenger who sank with the ship. The story of this great liner started in London and Ireland and ended in a nightmare in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, where half of its passengers were lost to the freezing water where they were prisoners of the sea, from where there was no escape.
The three most important men on the Titanic were; Mr. Bruce Ismay, Mr. Thomas Andrews and Captain Edward John Smith. Mr. Bruce was the chairman of White Star Line and president of IMM (International Mercantile Marine) which he resigned in 1916.
Mr. Thomas Andrew was the nephew of Mr. Perrie (Lord William James Pierre) who were the shipbuilder of White Star lines's ships.
Captain Smith was the milionaire-captain, he was married to Sarah Pennington, they lived in Southampton. Smith had built a reputation as one of the world's most experienced sea captains. Captain Smith was first the captain of Olympic which suffered incident, and had to limp back to Southampton from its journey from New York back home to Britain. Then he became the Captain of RMS Titanic. Titanic's maiden voyage was delayed because of the damage to Olympic, and had to put the journey a few weeks forward from the 20th of March to the 10th of April. And the rest is history. Captain Smith's body was never recovered.        

But what I am interested in, is the unknown stories of the famous ship RMS Titanic and its passengers. If anybody knows anything please leave a note for me. I would be very thankful to you all!

To the memory of the 1500 hundred souls which were lost that night. And I send my deepest regards to the families who lost family that night.

Downtown Abbey Season 2

At Long last this very evening, the first chapter of the 2nd season of Downtown Abbey, appeared on Danish television, and it was wonderful to yet again see the familiar faces of the Crawley's and the staff of Downtown Abbey, and begin to follow their lives and WWI and how it affects the family, the staff and the world of how they live. Though there were a few surprises in the first chapter, I think it was a great introduction to the 2nd season and I already hope for a 3rd season even though the 2nd has just begun to be shown!

I hope all Danish people where as happy as I were to finally see the 2nd season on television after the long wait.
Since I know both America and Britain has already ended their enjoyment of the Downtown Abbey season 2 and now has to wait half a year before they are allowed to see what happens in season 3.

One or two things I was surprised about was that we finally could see the woman who keeps Bates and Anna separate and that Thomas once again were lucky and survives and I think he will be sent home to Britain!
One character in Downtown I was happy about was Dame Maggie Smith, and how well she plays her role as the Dowager Countess of Grantham, and how sharp her tongue is about Lavinia... (all is allowed to guess who she is, if you haven't seen the chapter tonight) and I was gladly surprised that she used a little of her professor atittude towards her (from Harry Potter).

I already can't wait for it to be sunday again!

Downtown Abbey season 2 don't appear on Danish television

Tonight on American and British television the season 2 of Downtown Abbey will start, and still after a promise from Danish television last fall, the second season has still not appeared on Danish Television yet!

A lot of people still look forward to see what happens to the Grantham family and staff of Downtown Abbey now that the First World War rages across Europe.

No insult intended to anyone.
